Monday Morning Blues 10/18/2021

It’s that time of the week yet again. Which teams make the Monday Morning Blues list after this weekend? Keep reading to find out.

College:

Arkansas – After such a promising start to the season, the Razorbacks have dropped their third loss in a row to drop them out of the top 25. That’s tough considering 3 weeks ago they were sitting 8th in the country.

Iowa – They just had a big win over Penn State and sitting at the number 2 team in the nation, what could go wrong? Purdue winning 24-7 sure puts a damper into things. Still a lot to play for, but this one really hurts for Iowa.

ETSU – I hate to have to put my local college on here, but the Bucs take their first loss of the season unexpectedly to Chattanooga. Sitting at 6-1 is still a great spot to be, but this one stings.

Tennessee Volunteers – Tennessee played great in a down to the wire thriller against Ole Miss. On top of it being a heartbreaking loss, it was also overshadowed by some fans throwing bottles, mustard, and a golf ball onto the field. That’s enough to give us the blues this morning.

NFL:

Recurring teams – The Giants and the Lions have made this place their home. Lions are still winless and Giants got beat 38-11…ouch.

Miami Dolphins – Dolphins are now 1-5. They lost in a close one to the previously winless Jacksonville Jaguars. Not looking good for the Dolphins this year.

Carolina Panthers – The Panthers have lost their last 3 games after starting 3-0 on the season. They fell short yesterday after getting it to OT.

Houston Texans – The Texans are about to make this place their home. They lost in a divisional game to the Colts 31-3. I mean, at least you all were prepared to have a rough year right?

Los Angeles Chargers – Had the Chargers played a close game with the Ravens and still lost, well they wouldn’t be on this list. Their offense have played great this year, but only put up 6 points against the Ravens in a 34-6 loss. It was uncharacteristic and I don’t expect to see them on here often.

Cleveland Browns – Another team making their debut on this list. The Cardinals are very good, to the Brown’s defense. The tough part for the Brown’s was losing Baker Mayfield to injury and the score was 37-14. That’s a tough loss all around, and hopefully for the Brown’s Baker won’t be out too long.

That’s it for today on the Monday Morning Blues. Looks like the NFL has more to feel down about than college, but there’s always next week.. Hopefully your team doesn’t make the list!

Monday Morning Blues 10/11/2021

Ahhh Monday… you are here yet again. You all know what time it is. Let’s take a look at which teams made this list this week.

College:

Vanderbilt – Poor Vandy.. Saturday was yet another reminder of the long season it’s going to be. Honestly not expecting them to win another game.

Alabama – Very shocked to have to put them on this list, but in an upset with A&M fans storming the field, Bama fans aren’t feeling that same joy this morning. Bama still controls their own destiny, but the room for error just became very thin.

NFL:

Detroit Lions – Welcome back to our VIP member. The Lions were so close to their first win of the season, but what do you know, a last second field goal to stop that.. Lions lose yet again.

Jacksonville Jaguars – The only other winless team in the league continues that streak. They weren’t expected to win, and even though they showed signs of hope, the final score ended up 37-19. On a slight bright note, Trevor Lawrence has looked much better the last couple games.

Miami Dolphins – Brief hope in the early part of the season has now turned into a 1-4 start… Getting beat 45-17 just hurts. Get ready for a long season Dolphin fans.

New York Giants – Losing has become normal, but this week hurts even worse. Daniel Jones went out with a concussion, and Barkley out with an injury as well. Hopefully they can be back soon, but it was a rough one yesterday against the Cowboys.

Kansas City Chiefs – If you had told me at this point I’d have the Chiefs on here twice, I wouldn’t have believed it. The Bills showed they are the better team, and the Chiefs continue their season woes. It’s been uncharacteristic for them. Fans have to start to wonder if they will turn it around.

That wraps it up for the Monday Morning Blues. Hopefully your team avoided the list this week. If they didn’t, well better luck next week!

Monday Morning Blues 10/4/2021

It’s that time again, time for the Monday Morning Blues. Was your team lucky enough to avoid this list this weekend?

College:

Florida Gators – One team that makes me happy to add to this list is the Gators. Although, if it were up to me Florida and Kentucky both would’ve lost somehow, but someone had to win this one. Florida drops their second loss of the season and we are only 5 games in.

Oregon – Oregon started the weekend as the number 3 team in the nation, and well that won’t be the case this week. Stanford upset Oregon this weekend handing them their first loss of the season.

Arkansas – No one expected Arkansas to actually beat Georgia, but 37-0? That will give you the blues.

Ole Miss – Typically when playing Alabama, it’s not going to go good, but Ole Miss had hopes of giving them a tough game especially after what happened last year. Going for it on 4th down from your own 30 and not getting it… well that will put you in the Monday Morning Blues.

NFL:

Tennessee Titans – Pains me to have to include them here, but they lost to the Jets.. Yeah they didn’t have AJ or Julio, but still it’s the Jets.

Houston Texans – The Bills were supposed to win, but losing 40-0.. happy Monday.

Detroit Lions – Welcome back! Last week Detroit was only here because of losing in a crazy way, but this week, well they are 0-4. Only Jacksonville joins them in that club. The Bears defense is tough, but they let that offense put up some points. Looks like the Lions may be frequent visitors on this blog.

Pittsburgh Steelers – A loss to the Packers isn’t necessarily something to be too concerned about, but the Steelers’ fans have to have the blues this morning with their team starting 1-3. Maybe Ben should’ve considered retirement last year?..

Well that wraps it up for the Monday Morning Blues. To all the teams on here, umm better luck next week?

Monday Morning Blues 9/27/2021

The weekend is over, meaning back to the office and a case of the 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴. Well you aren’t the only one and these teams in this category have a case of the blues. ⁣

𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞:⁣
𝘊𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴 – Clemson took a tough loss against unranked NC State in OT. This loss most likely has eliminated the Tiger’s playoff hopes with now 2 losses early in the season. This is unfamiliar territory for them.⁣

𝘝𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴 – Ahh Vandy, no one expected a win against Georgia, but 62-0.. That has to be demoralizing against the organization considering the start of the season. Vandy has Connecticut next week, and the way it’s looking so far that might be their only chance at another win for the rest of the season. It’s going to be a long season for Vandy fans.⁣

𝘛𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘝𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴 – It pains me to say this, but I have to put the Vols on here. No one expected them to beat Florida, but the way the game started it would seem to be a much closer game than the score suggested. Although some bright moments, this one got the hopes up just enough to leave a sting in a 38-14 loss where the Vols produced no points in the second half. Vols have some winnable games this year, but still a long road to a bowl game.⁣

𝘛𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘴 𝘈&𝘔 – A&M lost to a good Arkansas team so there is no shame in a loss. When you are a favorite top 10 team and lose though, well it can cause some disappointment. Still a lot of potential for A&M this season, but this was not their weekend.⁣

𝐍𝐅𝐋:⁣
𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘑𝘦𝘵𝘴 – All I have to say is poor Jets. Jets are now 0-3 with a combined score of 20 points with 14 of those coming in their opening game. Zach Wilson has 7 ints to 2 TDs in that span. I thought the Lions for sure would lock down worst offense this year, but I think that title is going to belong to the Jets. Jets fans, it’s going to a 𝘓𝘖𝘕𝘎 season. Maybe first 0-17 team?⁣

𝘋𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘪𝘵 𝘓𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 – The Lions could normally expect to be on this list, but they played surprisingly well against the Ravens and should have won. The way they lost is what puts them in the blues category. The Ravens hit a recording breaking 66 yard FG that bounced off the upright to beat them. Is that not the most Lion’s way to lose?⁣

𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘠𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘎𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴 – The Giants seen a glimmer of hope in getting their first W of the season until they didn’t. A much needed win against a struggling Atlanta team leaves the Giants in the blues category. Giants have to almost be used to it at this point right?⁣

𝘒𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘢𝘴 𝘊𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘧𝘴 – A surprising team to be in this category. A loss to the Chargers puts the Chiefs at a 1-2 start to the season and last in the AFC west. This is definitely NOT the start they were expecting, but I wouldn’t panic just yet Chief’s fans. I think they will be just fine as the season goes, but as for this weekend that can’t feel too good. ⁣

This sums up the 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴. Did your team avoid this list this week or are you needing an extra cup of coffee to get you through? Better luck next weekend! ⁣

Week 1 NFL in the Books!

COLBY: Highlight of the week – MNF SHOWDOWN

Week 1 of the NFL sure was full of ups and downs for different teams, but in my opinion the Monday Night Football game between Baltimore and Las Vegas was the icing on the cake. A high scorer that came down to the wire in overtime, this game had exactly what you wanted in it. And for us Titans fans…after our bad loss to Arizona, it was great to see Baltimore join us in the loss column. But serious…very few things in the NFL season are better than Monday Night Football, and what a great way to kick it off. Surely the divisional matchup between Detroit and Green Bay this Monday will live up to week 1’s game…..right?? RIGHT???…

Other takeaways: Don’t look now, but ETSU is still undefeated on the season…

DEREK: Highlight of the week – Panther’s defense.

What if I told you as a Panthers fan, I’m cautiously optimistic after Sunday’s game? I mean honestly…Darnold didn’t turn the ball over, had a passing and rushing TD, but what really got me excited was Carolina’s defense. The defense which tied for the most sacks and passes defended and was #1 in opponent completion percentage and yards per rush…that defense. And yes, I know it was the Jets, but this was a Jets team that I believe is improved from last year, was excited about a new rookie QB, and to come out and get a solid win over them…I’ll take it.

Other takeaways: Tennessee doing Tennessee things…there were some good takeaways from the game…Hooker looked more comfortable than Milton in the offense right up until the interception late in the game…maybe the QB battle isn’t quite over with yet.

MICHAEL: Highlight of the week – I don’t want to talk about it.

You know how sometimes you have one of those mornings where everything goes wrong? You oversleep your alarm, you get a coffee stain on your tie, you leave you wallet at home while you rush to work…those days? Yeah, well, this weekend of football was a big slap in the face for me…I’m just hoping maybe I got all my bad luck out of the way early.

My main worry is with the Titan’s bus. They’re obviously gonna have to get a new one since the door on the one they have got jammed on Sunday and left their regular team left inside…joking is my way to cope with it but seriously. Seriously??? This was not the Titans. We know this team is better than this. Not much turnover since last year, a more potent offense…this was a fluke. If the fluke continues these next couple of weeks, THEN I will start panicking for real.

My other football woes came in the form of UT losing a winnable game in the 4th quarter (unheard of, right?) and my fantasy football team getting absolutely walloped. Well…there’s always next week…or year.

Other takeaways: Hahahahahahahaha Ohio State lost hahahahahahahahahaha.

MATT: Highlight of the week – WHO DAT.

I need to brag on my Saints…displaced by a hurricane, playing many people’s pick for top NFC contender week one at a neutral location, the laughingstock of the NFL at one point due to a plethora of turnovers and mediocre QB play with the starting debut as NOLA’s QB, a QB battle leading all the way up to week one…and boy oh boy did they silence some criticism for the time being. In the most impressive week one win across the league, they stunned Green Bay with a 38-3 win for New Orleans. Jameis Winston looked like…well he looked like the Jameis Winston who brought home the Heisman trophy for Florida State. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers looked like – you guessed it – he looked like the Jameis Winston from 2019. Very excited for the Saints this season and hoping that Winston continues to reap the benefits of his hard work and patience. I think the New Orleans defense will do a great job of carrying the team as Winston becomes more and more comfortable as the starter, and while waiting Michael Thomas’s return to the active roster.

Other takeaways: Pretty slow week of college football. Big wins for Oregon and Arkansas. Tennessee lost a winnable game, but admittedly to a better and more veteran Pitt team.

College Football Week 1 Recap

College football week 1 is in the books. To say it was an interesting opening week would be an understatement. Our 4 podcast members weigh in on their highlight of the week, and their big takeaways.

COLBY: Highlight of the week – ETSU upset over Vandy.

GOOOOO BUCS! ETSU all the way, baby. A quality win for the program against a well-known school. How about the defense giving up NO touchdowns? This was a win for ETSU but this was just plain embarrassing for Vandy. I for one can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds in store for the Bucs.

Other takeaways: UGA has a scary defense. The front 7 as a whole were dominant but the defensive line in particular came to play Saturday. The Clemson O-line wasn’t ready for them and couldn’t match their intensity. Those front guys for UGA mean business.

MICHAEL: Highlight of the week – VT silences UNC and Sam Howell.

*Crickets*…oh don’t mind that, that’s just me listing the positive things I saw out of UNC this week. This team was supposed to be a big offensive threat with one of the Heisman favorites Sam Howell at the helm. Instead, he went 17/32 with 3 INTs. A big loss to a conference opponent does not bode well for the rest of UNC’s season. If they want any hope of resurrecting the season they will need to turn this thing around THIS week. VT, on the other hand, was not flashy. 296 yards of total offense. But you know what? They didn’t need to be flashy on offense. The defense did its job, they got some points, and they got a huge W to start their season.

Other takeaways: UT run game has a lot of promise. Milton has a cannon, but will need to work on his decision making speed and ability.

DEREK: Highlight of the week – ETSU upset over Vandy.

HUGE win for the Bucs. Beating an in-state SEC opponent, an opponent they were NOT supposed to beat is the biggest thing that has happened for the Bucs since the football program returned. Can this be a turning point for ETSU? Can this be the win needed to boost recruiting and get the community to buy back into this program? I think so. Expect to see this momentum carry the Bucs throughout the season.

Other takeaways: I get to say it. I waited to say it and now I get to say it. UNC is OVERRATED. They got exposed this week and I am HERE for it. A big thumbs down for the Tarheels performance and a shoutout to VT for giving me the satisfaction of watching UNC get stunned.

MATT: Highlight of the week – Heisman hopefuls looked not so hopeful.

Spencer Rattler. DJ Uiagalelei. JT Daniels. Sam Howell. What do all these players have in common? All 4 of these were Heisman hopefuls in week 1 who decided their Heisman campaign would be more effective if it got off to a very rocky start. Now I’m not saying these 4 are out of the race….but they’ve gotta get this train back on the tracks if they want to have a chance because there are some other Heisman contenders who really lit it up in week 1. I’m still sticking with my preseason pick of Matt Corrall for Heisman. He looked good vs. Louisville. If he can avoid the abysmal performances like last year vs. Arkansas (6 INTs), I think he’s got a real shot.

Other takeaways: Bryce Young is the real deal. Bama fans were hopeful he would get going quickly in his first career start, but no one expected the poise and promise that he showed against #14 Miami. That said, consistency is key. Us Bama fans are very hopeful that his debut was just the beginning of what Bryce will do.
